Exposed.

Don’t worry, I’m not about to go into another ultra-deep speech about my life.  This is much more fun, I think.

When I moved into my house in March, my older brother, Rocky, was convinced there had to be treasure somewhere hidden inside.  It’s the little boy in him that believes there to be something magical about older homes.  And as much as I pretended that he was just being silly, it’s things like that which make me love him all the more.  He looked in the shed and in the attic – even trying to convince me to come up in to the attic with him…I didn’t comply.

During some of my more stressful moments after the move with crazy things happening in the house concerning broken windows and plumbing (welcome to home ownership, I know) – he suggested that I chip the plaster off the chimney running up through my kitchen.  As interesting as I found the idea, I was not ready to jump into a project of that magnitude when I was still trying to unpack and I sort of brushed off the idea.

Until yesterday morning – when, randomly as I ate breakfast before going into work for a late start, I decided that I wanted to see what was under the plaster.  So I started chipping away…

No…sadly these are not my kitchen – but aren’t they pretty?  I didn’t get very far on the plaster chipping before I had to head to work but I’ve started it and hopefully I will finish it!  So far I can’t see the brick, I am praying it’s under there somewhere and I have a good feeling about it.  I don’t have an entire wall to do (which is probably better), but I think it will add a lot of character to my kitchen to have the chimney exposed.

Thanks for the idea Rock!  Oh and if I end up finding some treasure in there, I suppose I’ll give you 50%…:)

Love,

Stormie Dae
